Andrea’s (Simply Living Healthy) Easiest Tastiest Prettiest Homemade Christmas Treat—a Homemade Popcorn Chocolate Candy Treat assembled on a pizza pan and ideal for holiday gifts—not only got my taste buds excited, it brought back some fond memories. Years ago I worked with an incredibly creative and fun group of folks. Our day-to-day work was pretty regimented, so we were always looking for ways to keep our brains stimulated and seeking fun outlets for our crazy ideas.
One year right before Christmas we received a piece of equipment for our work that came packed in a very large piece of pink Styrofoam. The flat side was a perfect blank “canvas.” Soon the Styrofoam was placed on the table in our common area and christened “Christ-Mess.” Everyone took part in adding to this unconventional “bulletin board” of sorts. Eech addition was welcome as all contributed to the whole effect. We could not mess Christ-Mess up. There were newspaper clippings, programs from Christmas church events we’d attended, cut-outs from Christmas cards, local menus, tinsel, and random ornaments inserted with push pins. In the end, “Christ-Mess” was a masterpiece and made us smile for another month or two once the holidays had passed.
Likewise, Andrea’s Easiest Tastiest Prettiest Homemade Christmas Treat is a dessert masterpiece. She offers two sets of guidelines (her original and a healthier version) for creating these treats, which she says make easy and much appreciated holiday gifts. The base of this treat is popcorn and melted chocolate is used as the “binder” for the toppings, but those topping ingredients are completely up to you. Andre says “The recipe is pretty vague due to the individuality of the treat…it’s really impossible to mess up.” Don’t you just love it when someone tells you that? I know I do. Start popping your popcorn for a delicious edible version of “Christ-Mess”!
